Translation Specialist

Job Summary:

The Translation Specialist is responsible for managing all project translation needs, including document translation and live translation services for conferences, workshops, and other events. This position will serve as the central point for all of the project’s translation needs, and will be part of the project Communications team. It is essential that the Translation Specialist has an extremely high level of linguistic competence in Dari, Pashto, and English – both written and verbal.

Duties & Responsibilities:

·        Work within the Communications team and in coordination with the technical team to develop translations of project documents.

·        Translate documents interchangeably between Dari, Pashto, and English.

·        Serve as the lead for translating all project implementation documents that are part of the agreement with anchor firms, including MAPAs, DNs, Closeout Letters, Modifications, etc.

·        Serve as an oral translator for specific events, activities, and meetings when and where necessary.

·        Incorporate the further improvements suggested by review committee in translated documentation.

·        Other ad hoc translation needs for the project as required.

·        Other duties as assigned by his/her supervisor and/or his/her designee.

Job Location:

Afghanistan, Kabul

Qualifications:

·        Bachelor’s in Literature, or other relevant field, with 5 years of relevant experience.

·        Excellent command of spoken and written Dari, Pashto and English, with strong reading comprehension skills.

·        IT skills, knowledge and experience, specifically Microsoft Office suite of products.

·        Ability to prioritize work in order to meet deadlines.

·        Able to work independently and as part of a team.

·        Experience of working with USAID Projects is a significant plus, and knowledge of USAID Branding, Marking, and Style Guide rules preferred.

1.         Supervision

The Translation Specialist will directly report to the Communications Manager, and indirectly report to both the DCOP Operations and the MEL & Communications Director.
