Business Development Service Specialist (Kabul, Afghanistan)


Job Description:

Overall Responsibilities:

Responsible for coordinating the development of AUWS vision and strategies in close cooperation with SBU (strategic business unit) staff. In consultation with AUWS program staff and AUWSSC management, develops and aligns the programs technical approach and appropriately disseminates it within all clients and partner organizations. Assists in developing strategic plans which support the programs vision, strategy and goals.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in surveys, financial and organizational assessments, including associated data requirements
  • Works with AUWSSC HQ and Kabul SBU to further develop business plan template and guidelines and create a Capital investment plan.
  • Supports and provides advice and guidance to SBU assigned staff in Business Development aspects.
  • Coordinate with local/regional stakeholders in relation to Water supply and business planning activities (for example like AUWSSC, NEPA, Municipality, MoUDL etc.), to include the community for resolution of conflicts and disputes relating any water related issues.
  • Coordinates internally with all concerned staff and externally with project partners and stakeholder as well as to identify other relevant support organizations.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor business planning processes.
  • Support HICD in the development of training packages to support implementation of business planning for Kabul SBU.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams to improve business planning methods.
  • Determine and execute key business initiatives that will drive business operations.
  • Assist in developing and implementing best practices and learning plans to meet business objectives.
  • Assist client management in operations, resource management, budget, revenue accounting, etc.
  • Assist in developing standard procedures to manage and maintain business operational and financial objectives.
  • Assist in preparing potential strategic plans by analyzing trends and forecast.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of Afghan market dynamics.
  • Identify business problems and provide recommendations for improvements.
  • Understand business direction and needs, and develop solutions, roadmaps and assessment of potential business impacts.

USAID’s Afghan Urban Water and Sanitation (AUWS) activity aims to provide technical assistance to the Afghanistan Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Corporation (AUWSSC) and the Afghan government to increase access to urban water and sanitation services for residents in six Afghan cities. The USAID Afghan Urban Water and Sanitation Activity aims at strengthening the capacity of the AUWSSC Headquarters (HQ) and six Strategic Business Units (SBUs), and the Ministry of Urban Development and Land (MUDL) to expand and improve access to sustainable water and sanitation services through an integrated program of assessment, planning, capacity building, and infrastructure and equipment support.
