Job Description:

The Dean of Department shall have the following responsibilities:

Be a member of the University’s Academic Board and work with the Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor in leading and managing the University.
Be responsible for the academic leadership of the faculty, including supervising all aspects of teaching, learning, research and knowledge transfer.
Be responsible for developing plan and budget for the faculty as part of the planning and resources allocation process and working within the approved budget.
Ensure that the faculty meets targets agreed as part of the planning and resources allocation process, for example, student recruitment and retention targets.
Assist the Chancellor with deploying faculty staffing as required in order to achieve; maximum effectiveness.
Have overall responsibility for the academic quality of the faculty and its departments.
Take the lead for ensuring a high quality student campus life experience.
Have overall responsibility for quality and safety management within the faculty.
Be an active part of the internal communications network ensuring faculty staff are kept informed of and contribute to University and faculty development.
Whenever needed, represent the Vice-Chancellor and Chancellor on the Campus and to the local community.
Have lead responsibility for identifying services required from contracted services on the Campus and monitoring of service delivery.
Have overall responsibility for day-to-day activities, lecturer discipline and maintenance of the Faculty.
Undertake any other duties and responsibilities delegated by the Chancellor and vice Chancellor.

Teaching Responsibilities:

Teach computer science courses within an established program of study.
Teach in a variety of settings from small group tutorials to large lectures, ensuring content, methods of delivery and learning materials meet the defined learning objectives for individual teaching sessions.
Develop own teaching materials, methods and approaches taking into account established or agreed practices where necessary.
Supervise the work of students, provide advice on study skills and help them with learning problems.
Set and mark assignments and set examination questions as well as assessing the work and progress of students by reference to defined criteria and provide constructive feedback to students.
Seek ways of improving performance by reflecting on teaching design, delivery, obtaining and analyzing feedback.
Plan own day-to day lesson plan within the framework of the agreed program.
Coordinate own work and that of others to avoid conflict or duplication of effort.
Use teaching resources and facilities as appropriate.
Deal with routine communication using a range of media.
Deal with problems which may affect the delivery of own teaching.
Contribute to decisions affecting the work of the team.
Use initiative, creativity and judgment in applying appropriate approaches to learning and teaching support and scholarly activities.
Share responsibility in deciding how to deliver modules and assess students.
Contribute to collaborative decision making with colleagues on academic content and on the assessment of students work.
Engage in exam duties, i.e. the production of exam questions/papers, exam marking and moderation.
Take responsibility for the quality of teaching delivered and, as necessary, seek further training, guidance and skills development to ensure that standards are maintained and improved.
Interviewing course applicants
Attending faculty and staff meetings and serve on committees.
Invigilate in examination hall to monitor proper conduction of exams.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

Qualification: Master Degree in Civil Engineering and Computer Sciences.
Experience: 3 years (as Dean/HoD) in any national or international university.
1-3 year experience in managing an academic department
Nationality: Afghan National
Language: Excellent English Language Skills
Communication skills: Good communication skills (Speaking, Writing and Comprehension)
Computer skills: (MS Office, Email and Internet skills)
Competencies and personal characteristics: Self Confidence, Inter-personal skills, Problem solving skills and Leadership skills.
