Job Requirements:

The Finance Mentor is responsible to manage multiple Afghan businesses as assigned, delivering excellent services and providing high-quality mentorship to Finance Graduates and client staff. Specific responsibilities include:

Conduct business assessments and determine a suitable accounting system for the business. Develop tailored assistance plans including how to establish and migrate to a new system. Provide mentoring to the client accounting and finance team, Finance Graduates, business owners, and managers. Ensure that the accounting system, cash books and controls, and document filing are being handled correctly. Give weekly assignments to client staff and Finance Graduates, reviewing progress on a regular basis. Develop financial practices and procedures with the assistance of Finance Graduates and client staff. Teach and work with Finance Graduates and client staff regarding the filing of tax returns and obtaining tax clearance in accordance with Afghan tax law. Direct Finance Graduates and client staff how to prepare bi-monthly departmental budgets. Demonstrate how to prepare monthly and annual sales reports with statistical data analysis and preparation of figures and graphs. Develop financial literacy among staff, managers, and owners. Deliver feedback on client business performance. Prepare formal monthly progress reports. Help each business to meet the below-mentioned objectives:

  • Have a bookkeeping system in place that tracks income and expenses, by sales channel and costs, by type and associated with the appropriate product, and staff trained to maintain it. Understand their cost of goods sold, allocating costs to the right product. Have staff capable of tracking accounts payable and receivable (including aging), closing out books on a monthly basis, and making accurate tax office filings on time. Be capable of producing financial statements that improve the bankability of those businesses that need loans. Have management capable of using financial information for planning and decision making, and for monitoring the performance of their own business plans.
