Overall job purpose:

Under the direct supervision of the Senior Program Manager, the Gender and Protection Officer will be responsible in supporting implementing partners of Johanniter in the implementation of gender and protection mainstreaming activities in all stages of program implementation. She/he will directly assist the Manager –Program development and partnerships and the Program Manager-Health in ensuring that gender and protection issues are efficiently address during program planning, targeting of beneficiaries,provision of services, monitoring and reporting.

TASKS:

  • Support Johanniter and its implementing partners in the implementation of gender and protection mainstreaming strategies in all stages of program implementation
  • Ensure that gender and protection are effectively addressed during project planning, targeting of beneficiaries, provision of services, monitoring and evaluation and reporting
  • Facilitate and conduct training and other capacity building activities on gender and protection mainstreaming in all Johanniter country programmes
  • Provide guidance  in ensuring all community structures associated with current projects are gender sensitive and protection mainstreamed, include measures to ensure safety from sexual exploitation and abuse
  • Ensure that there is a system for responding back to affected communities in timely manner and on regular basis and that with focus on issues from communities that shape programming
  • In collaboration with programme team members, coordinate monthly feedback sessions in the implementation areas to collect complaints, respond to issues to enhance accountability to affected communities and recommend to management any protection and gender related concerns
  • Develop tools to be use in GBV and protection screening, process and systems that allows the Johanniter’s programs to embed gender sensitivity and transformative approach in design and implementation processes,  adapting based on learning and need
  • Conduct on site coaching of relevant project staff of Johanniter’s implementing partners related to management of GBV cases, developing care plans and provision of MHPSS services
  • Conduct regular monitoring visits of projects to observe gender and protection issues and advise management on actions  that needs to be taken
  • Document and share best practices on mainstreaming gender and protection in humanitarian response
  • Act as focal point on gender and protection and participate in the activities of the protection cluster and the GBV sub -cluster
  • Compile and share reports on Johanniter’s and implementing partners interventions related to gender and protection

About The Johanniter:

Johanniter is working is Afghanistan since October 2002 providing emergency aid, rehabilitation of health facilities, medical care and capacity building for community health workers, students, teachers and professionals of NGOs and government agencies in disaster preparednessand first aid skills. Johanniter’s country office is located in Kabul and has operational coverage in the North, Northeastern and central region with possibility of expansion in the South and Western provinces of Afghanistan.

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • Experience in implementing humanitarian and development programs and conducting capacity building of staff and partners in gender and protection
  • Fluent in written and spoken English, Dari & Pashto. Must be able to read and interpret documents, and write reports
  • Computer literate and proficient in using MS Office Programs (Word, Excel, Power point)  and internet

Competencies Required:

  • Good knowledge of international standards and tools in the humanitarian and development sector
  • Good understanding of cultural sensitivities related to gender and protection issues in Afghanistan
  • Integrity in keeping confidential information
  • Able to work independently and perform assigned task in a reliable and competent manner
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, project planning and implementation skills
  • Clear vision on the integration of gender and protection in Johanniter’s programs
  • Ability to travel in remote and hard to reach  location, unstable security environment and willing to travel extensively in project locations
  • A good team player and flexible in terms of working hours
  • With good common sense and pro-active
  • Good  written and oral communication skills in English, Dari & Pashto
