Job Description

Title: Health Educator

Dept. / Location: FRC -Afghanistan

Reports to: Provincial Coordinator

Responsibilities:

  • Assess the health needs of specific communities.
  • Develop programs to teach people about healthy life choices and how to avoid unhealthy habits.
  • Connect people to the health services and educational materials they need.
  • Advocate for policies that yield healthier outcomes for individuals and communities
  • Educate the public about health and wellness by developing and operating programs and treatments tailored to the needs of specific individuals and groups.
  • Design, evaluate and distribute health education materials that are culturally appropriate.
  • Interview adults and families who are enrolling in various health education programs.
  • Conduct health education classes following organizational guidelines.
  • Keep track of the procedures and treatments that clients have scheduled.
  • Inform nurses, doctors and other health care professionals of the health education services available to their patients.
  • Plans, develops, and designs health education and training programs, including preparation, facilitation, and follow-up.
  • Evaluates programs; performs research on relevant topics, and develops and/or revises curriculum modules and/or presentation materials as appropriate.
  • Presents lectures and training to groups and/or individuals, as appropriate.
  • Coordinates the activities of consultants, agencies, and other providers involved in specific programs.
  • Participates in the development of marketing and promotional goals and strategies, as appropriate; may write grant proposals and seek funding for programs.
  • Serves as a point of contact in area of expertise; refers clients to other support services, such as medical evaluation and treatment, social services, and employment services, as appropriate.
  • Prepares and disseminates educational and informational materials.
  • May lead, guide, and train staff/student employees, interns, and/or volunteers performing related work
  • Maintains current knowledge base on specific health issues, particularly in area of expertise.
  • Submit regular reports
  • Any other relevant task given by the immediate supervisor.
  • Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is everyone’s responsibility and all staff are required to adhere to VWO Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) and VWO Code of Conduct Policy, that enshrines principles of PSEA, at all times.

Background

Voice of Women Organization (VWO) is an Afghanistan-based non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and non-partisan organization that specifically strives for the revival of women’s role in Afghan societies through advocacy for women’s rights, their legal and social protection, and their capacity building.

VWO informally established in Kabul in 1998 and was registered with the Government of Afghanistan as the first women’s organization in the post-Taliban setup. The organization has since carried out scores of projects for the socio-economic advancement of Afghan women and girls. Voice of women organization established a headquarter office in 2004 in Herat province. In the beginning, it focused on women-related matters, and later on, in 2005, VWO established the first women protection center in Herat province.

Job Requirements

VWO has a zero tolerance to Sexual Exploitation and Abuse of beneficiaries. Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) is everyone’s responsibility and all staff are required to adhere to the Code of Conduct, that enshrines principles of PSEA, at all times (both during work hours and outside work hours).  Familiarization with, and adherence to, the Code of Conduct is an essential requirement of all staff, in addition to related mandatory training.  All staff must ensure that they understand and act in accordance with this clause.

Note: It is also reminded to the all candidates that, background and reference checks will be conducted and ethics is part of the annual performance appraisals of VWO.    

Position Requirements: (Qualifications)

1-Bachelor degree (Preferably Medical, Nursing, Midwifery or relevant field.)

2-Minimum of 2 years’ experience in health education section in National or International Organization.

3-Having oral and written communication skills in Pashto and Dari languages.

4-Strong interpersonal communication skills.

5-Ability to work under pressure.

6-Ability to work overtime.
