Job Summary:

Staff responsible for this position will be working as MW in the absence of regular MW working in the Health Facility.

Ensure provision of high quality, culturally appropriate MCH services for women and newborns. Midwives provide high quality, culturally appropriate health education and family planning services and other health and hygiene topics to the clients and patients. Meet CHWs on monthly basis and provide them appropriate guidance in coordination with CHS

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify targets for the set indicators and make a plan to reach to the target based on daily performance
  • Provide ANC, PNC and family planning services to patients and clients living in catchment areas of the HF
  • Ensure re attendance of patients and clients for follow up visits in ANC, PNC and Family planning services.
  • Play vital role in counselling pregnant women for health facility based delivery and provide the advice on necessary preparation for the health facility based deliveries to the patient and family members
  • Provide primary care to women of reproductive age, in accordance with the Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS)
  • Give the necessary advice and care to women during pregnancy, prenatal, natal and the postpartum period  
  • Conduct deliveries on her own and care for the newborn infant
  • Manage complications in pregnancy and childbirth, in accordance with the principles of basic emergency obstetric care
  • Supervise the provision of primary health care within the community by female community health workers
  • Counsel and educate women, the family and the community, in relevant areas of health including preparation for parenthood and childbirth 
  • Provide all non‐surgical methods of family planning, and counseling and referral for surgical methods 
  • Perform limited, select administrative duties such as patient charting, recording and reporting of data; clinic and/or facility management (as required); or coordination of specific educational or outreach programs
  • Follow established health center policies, procedures and objectives; continuous quality improvement initiatives; safety, environmental, and infection prevention standards
  • Participate in the provision of 24 hour, 7day maternity service, which may require evening, night or on-call duty

Job Requirements

Job Requirements:

  • 3 Years Midwifery certificate from Government recognized institute in or outside the country
  • Be able to go Lalandar district of Kabul province 

Professional Experience:     

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical experience at the national clinics/ hospitals or health organization
  • Experience working in BPHS HFs and public/private hospital as MW is necessary
  • Experience in the use of computers and office software packages and handling of the medical report record systems.


  • Basic knowledge of English and fluent in both national language of Afghanistan.
  • Must have good knowledge of Pashto language
  • Have good communication and relationship skill.
