YHDO is implementing a project in partnership with WHO in Spin Boldak districts of Kandahar province, the main purpose of the project is to provide emergency trauma care services for war and non-war wounded patients in Spin Boldak
Main purpose
YHDO is looking for an Orthopedic specialist, to provide Orthopedic services/surgical care to wounded patients in the trauma care unit of Spin Boldak and to build TCU staff capacities. The orthopedic surgeon will be based in Spin Boldak DH and will have below responsibilities
The Orthopaedic surgeon is responsible for the following activities:
- Manages TCU and staff activities
- Manages surgical emergency cases attended in the TCU
- Visit’s recovery and inward patients for follow-up
- Obtains specialized assistance as necessary through referrals
- Supervises and follow up nursing care of trauma care unit patients
- Supervises physiotherapy service delivery
- Follows established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement initiative; safety, environmental, and infection prevention standards
- Follows YHDO rules and regulations as well as DH rules and regulations
- Coordinates with BPHS implementer and local authorities if needed
- Participate in the provision of 24-hour services, which may require working during evenings and night
- Provides on the job training to TCU staff and build their capacities in relation to trauma care
- Identify and report immediately any problem which interferes in the delivery of services or in achieving the program objectives to his/her immediate supervisor
- Participates in the weekly meeting of health facility to share information and discuss the program progress and challenges
- Provide monthly action plan and monthly report to the project manager

YHDO is a non-governmental and not-for-profit organization established in 2009, registered with the ministry of economy in Afghanistan. YHDO works with interdisciplinary professionals to develop and implement innovative, culturally appropriate, evidence-based interventions.
Job Requirements
- Medical degree completed with specialization in orthopedic surgery
- Strong understanding of trauma care, the Afghan health system, and emergency health care services
- 3 years of working experience as an orthopedic surgeon in emergency set-up
- Ability to show initiative and manage multiple responsibilities
- Proven skills in effective teamwork and leadership
- Excellent oral and written communication skills (English, Dari, and Pashto)
- Integration of humanitarian principles
- Honesty and dedication
