Community Mobilizer (Herat, Afghanistan)


Job Description

The Community Mobilizer plays a key role in designing and implementing the Urban health inivitive project activities on community level in Kabul, Herat, Kandahar and Mazar-e-Sharif.  Under the supervision of the community engagement specialist, s/he is expected to identify, connect and bring in the networked venerable community, including teacher, Mula, religious leaders, health shura and community health workers to the community increasing awareness about health and health problem S/he is also expected to motivate and engage fellow community members to deliver the key messages of health awareness to their families and community.  The Community Mobilizer will report to the community engagement specialist at provinces

  • Reports to Community Engagement Specialist Collaborates with UHI project  

Actively contributes to Urban health initiative (UHI) project to ensure that the project interventions are implemented in effective and efficient manner and the project goal and objectives are met.

Summary of Key Functions

  • Contribute to design and implementation of outreach activities to provide inputs to outreach community mobilizer; Keep the community updated about the Covid-19 outbreak in Afghanistan    Connect with and engage individuals and groups who approach societal problems in less conventional ways, in complement to or outside traditional civil society activities; Connect the mapped initiatives and people with each other and coordinate for their mutual benefit e.g., when more than one group offer the same or complementary services; Delivers appropriate training sessions making use of acceptable teaching methods and materials to the target groups community. Organize and participate in all project events (practical trainings on collaboration between the local government and communities, consultations with communities, mobilization of venerable people, Conduct at least one mobilization session at community to increasing community awareness on covid-19 prevention, transmission, personal and environmental hygiene etc       Respond and adjust to a flexible activity scheduling, logistical constraints related to public space management, or social dynamics involving the community and its expectations; Distributions hygiene kits according the selected criteria to the target group at community 

Other relevant tasks

  • Distributions hygiene kits according the selected criteria to the target group at community  Demonstration handwashing, using hand sanitizer to community on the small groups Demonstration of using mask and glove base on the need on the small group  Support project advocacy interventions at the targeted communities Generate Health Management Information (HMIS) report as per the format and project rudiments

Participate in the project team meetings to ensure that the project interventions are implemented as per the project plan.

Functional Competencies:

  • Proven ability to work flexibly and independently with limited supervision and deliver quality results against tight deadlines; Have good communication skills to onboard community members and coordinate with the international Future Makers team; Have excellent communication skills (both verbal and written) in Dari and Pashtu

Skills:

  • Deep knowledge of the community health services conducted by health provider Excellent training and facilitation and community mobilization skills Having a deep knowledge of Afghan traditions and cultural norms Ability and willingness to work at the communities Excellent spoken /written Dari and Pushto Ability to conduct mobilization session at community level

Education and Working Experience:

  • Graduate university from Social science, Psychosocial degree, Bachler degree and relevant to health is preferred, At 3- 5 years’ experience of health sector and community mobilization preferably who have knowledge of Afghanistan health system

  Languages Skills:

Fluency in spoken and written Dari and Pashtu is a requirement. English Language skills is a plus point.
