Job Summary

Label STEP’s main project activities are (1) auditing the supply chains of Afghan handmade carpet exporters, verifying compliance with Label STEP’s fair trade standards; (2) mobilizing weavers, organizing Training for Trainers to selected Weaver Representatives, and providing capacity-building programs; (3) collaborate with industry stakeholders (carpet exporters, producers, and contractors), managing and supervising the introduction of a new digital production management tool. The Project Manager will be reporting directly to the Managing Director at Label STEP’s head office in Switzerland.  

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Organizing, managing, and supervising Label STEP Projects in Afghanistan Leading a small team of regional officers and field staff, coordinating with STEP’s country representative and his office in Mazar-e-Sharif Coordinate and communicate with industry stakeholders on regular basis: approx. 15 carpet export companies Manage the identification of the industry stakeholders’ supply chains and organize beneficiaries (weavers) registration and, baseline surveys, Training Need Assessment (TNA), beneficiaries’ (weavers’) representatives selection, developing training materials, conducting and supervising training; Organize the weaver group monthly group meetings, keeping the records of the meetings, identifying the pressing issues, compiling case studies, reports and evaluations; Coordinate need assessment with the carpet exporters collaborate with the Label STEP office Collaborate with the Label STEP office in Mazar-e-Sharif to identify and track industry stakeholders’ supply chains and organize social audits. Provide the head office with regular Monitoring and Evaluation reports, success stories, and case studies. Helping the Label STEP Management in writing new proposals for fundraising projects in Afghanistan;

Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field (social sciences, development studies, MBA, Economics, etc.). At least 5-7 years of relevant working experience, preferably with (inter)national organizations. Private sector (or even Afghan carpet industry) experience would be a plus, though not required. Strong project management background and experience with report writing as well as with budget and financial management skills. Fluency in English (written and spoken) and Dari is essential. Knowledge of Turkmen or Uzbek is desirable. Strong Computer skills required. Good team-building, interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
