The master trainer for Pine nut production, processing and quality control will work closely with pine nut producer associations, aggregators, processors and exporters to train their employees, as well as lead farmers, so that they can engage in an aggressive campaign to train producers, improve field-level productivity and produce quality.
The master trainer will also closely work with pine nut producers, processors, and exporters to introduce and improve production and postproduction practices, standardize sorting and grading, packaging, and storage requirements. The master trainer will design and deliver tailored training sessions to tackle the most relevant productivity and quality challenges and capitalize on the opportunities.
Objectives and Duties
Conduct in-depth discussions with the pine nuts’ producers, exporters, and processors to determine, categorize and prioritize quality characters demanded by end-markets.
Assess the real needs of the pine nuts’ producers, exporters, and processors for developing the training material.
Produce production, harvest, and post-harvest technical manual(s), presentation, and posters in English and local languages Dari/Pashto with recommendations specifically designed to achieve the traits required by pine nut producers, exporters, and processors from the training.
Use modern and innovative methodologies and approaches for participation-based pine-nut forest management through producing technical guidelines for forest augmentation, reforestation, and afforestation.
Train producers, anchor firms, associations, aggregators, processors, and exporters to train collectors, farmers in productivity and market-specific quality enhancing.
Embed lessons learned and best practices on the pine-nut value chain to the technical manual.
Actively participate in the follow-up TOFs and assist in producing the modified manuals for TOFs
Any Other activities as assigned by the supervisor.
The Afghanistan Value Chain (AVC)-High-Value Crops (HVC) Project works with anchor firms nationwide to reverse market failures, strengthen backward and forward linkages, drive growth, and create jobs for men, women, and youth while supporting the rapid growth of the fruit and nuts, high-value horticulture, spices, and medicinal crops value chains.
Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, horticulture, or forestry.
At least 4 years of In-depth experience in pine-nut production and quality control training
Previous work experience/knowledge in the field of agricultural studies and practices.
Experience in developing training material such as technical training manuals, presentation, infographics, and the delivery of training-of-trainers and the delivery of agricultural extension services.
Should be able to communicate in English, Dari, and Pushto.
