JOB PURPOSE:

  • This is a full-time, grant-funded BHA position. The midwife will be responsible for the antenatal, natal, postnatal, family planning, newborn care and IYCF services. Also she will be responsible for the work with community in the area of operation and community related activities, meetings, health education, beneficiaries’ identification of the nutrition supply as well as solving field challenges related to the project implementation between the communities.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Performing child and mother health services based on the standard minimum requirements policy

Ensures that patients are received and properly installed in the health service:

  • Takes the patient’s history and vital signs. Registers and completes the admission card. Provides information to patient and caretaker about the services available.

Provides ante-natal consultations:

  • Offers a complete follow up of patients according to the protocols Detects pregnancy related complications and adapts the follow up if needed Informs and refers to the doctor in case of complications/problems exceeding one’s own competency Fills in antenatal files and registers Responsible for identifying, receiving and providing care to the victims of the SGBV in collaboration with the MD Performing psychological counselling services for women of childbearing age and strengthening the intercourse Knows, promotes, implements and follows at all times the universal hygiene standards/ precautions and infection control, security rules and other policies and procedures in the medical premises and ensures high standards of hygiene of her working environment Ensures hand washing protocol is respected Checks that the work place is clean and disinfected Ensures that contaminated waste (including needles and other sharps) is separated and managed according to waste segregation protocols in place. Prepares and sends the materials and the instrument sets to be sterilized.

Provides family planning to the patients:

  • Ensures appropriate individual counseling (information) so women can opt for the method of their choice, knowing indications, contraindications and the secondary effects of each method Ensures a basic clinical examination to exclude contra-indications. Administers and/or provides the method of contraception according to its use and MoPH protocol. Informs and refers to the doctor in case of complications/problems exceeding one’s own competence. Fills in family planning files and registers. Ensures the patients’ right to privacy and confidentiality is respected.

Carries-out and ensures that administrative procedures and documents are filled in according to the requirements of WVA:

  • Fills in patient’s files, forms, consumption sheet, statistics, etc Reports any problematic situations and cases that may arise Fills in all necessary registers and health files Participates in data collection and keep doctors/supervisors informed

Provides post-natal consultations:

  • Offers a complete follow up of the mothers and new-born according to protocols Detects complications related to the post-natal period and adapts the follow up schedule if needed  Carrying out neonatal care services, including neonatal resuscitation, neonatal temperature care, skin-to-skin contact between mother and new-born after birth Distribution of clean maternity kits for pregnant mothers and health care kits for women of childbearing age Giving birth to pregnant women if necessary and urgent Finding danger signs of the mother after birth before birth at the time of birth, such as high blood pressure and severe anaemia and cases of severe inflammation, and referring them to a well-equipped health centre Health services for GBV people Make sure all mothers are checked for malnutrition and their malnutrition facts are received and they are given the necessary advice Providing fertility health services in the breastfeeding section for pregnant and lactating mothers. Registering health services in the book and preparing weekly and monthly reports for the relevant doctor

Other

  • Adhere to WV Child and Adult Safeguarding policy and standards. Adhere to WV accountability standards. To be aware and prepared to implement WV Afghanistan Humanitarian and Emergency Affairs plan under the context of (Ghor ) interventions.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification

  • Graduated from midwifery school Having a midwifery diploma is preferred Having knowledge and experience in midwifery, nutrition and mental health 

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

  • Be well organized skill Have time management skill Have a good team work 

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

  • Accessibility to the below mentioned areas/locations is required: Ghor (Lal, Sharahk, Pasaband)
