Job Description
Position Summary:
The Trade Events Specialist will be responsible for the planning, organization, implementation, and reporting of Afghan agribusiness delegations at international trade shows, trade missions and reverse trade missions. They will also maintain a record of all deals signed and the execution of those deals.
S/he will ensure that all activities are undertaken in compliance with USAID and ROP regulations, policies and procedures, and AMP objectives. S/he will undertake both administrative and technical tasks.
Specific Tasks:
Assist AMP’s Marketing Director in the planning and organization of international trade shows and events.
Coordinate and liaise with regional AMP marketing team on nominations of agribusinesses for trade shows.
Facilitate travel and logistic services between agribusinesses and project departments supported under AMP.
Coordinate with the procurement department for any travel or service-related procurement.
Keep track of necessary actions related to trade show participation through the use of a detailed checklist and highlight deadlines that need to be met with AMP personnel.
Liaise on a regular basis with other donor project implementing partners.
Assist in the organization of additional events around trade shows, including technical seminars, B2B networking, and market visits.
During trade shows, gather data on potential and confirmed deals undertaken each day, including export destination, products, volumes, and values, for reporting to USAID.
Maintain a database on trade show deal execution/fulfillment for M&E purposes.
Contribute technical inputs to post-event reports.
Provide inputs (text and photos) for AMP monthly and quarterly reports.
Provide any additional data and information to the AMP M&E personnel, as required.
Any other tasks of a similar nature as requested by the Marketing Director.
Background
The Agricultural Marketing Program (AMP) builds on the successes of Roots of Peace’s 10-year Commercial Horticulture & Agriculture Marketing Program (CHAMP) and aims over the 3-year period of implementation to increase export volumes and values, introduce new agricultural products to the market, diversify export markets and increase value-added processing. The increased exports will create additional demand for agricultural products that will drive job growth in rural areas. Key objectives/targets include increases in exports by $450 million, domestics sales by US$50 million, and jobs by 4,500.
Activities will include: researching new market opportunities for Afghan products; operating trade offices in key markets; organizing or participating in international B2B events, trade missions and trade shows; organizing promotional activities in key markets; providing incentives for businesses exporting new products or to new markets; training in new markets, food safety, access to finance, etc.; facilitating access to trade credit; and mitigating trade impediments.
AMP works primarily with private sector agribusinesses but also engages the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock (MAIL), the Afghan Chamber of Commerce and Industries (ACCI), the Export Promotion Agency of Afghanistan (EPAA) and other USAID-funded agricultural programs including (AVC-Crops, AVC-Livestock, RADP East and PVC-West). Specific attention is given to support the participation of women and youth in AMP activities
Job Requirements
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree required; economics, business, finance, or agricultural marketing field is preferred.
Work Experience:
At least 5 years’ experience working on donor-funded programs, preferably USAID-funded programs.
At least 5 years’ experience working with private sector firms or donor projects. Specific experience of the agricultural sector preferred.
Skills:
Ability to manage a large and complex workload, with limited supervision
Motivation, flexibility, and capacity to work under pressure and short deadlines, and a strong sense of personal initiative.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including presentation skills in local and English languages
Attention to detail; ability to prepare well-formatted and professionally looking documents.
Fluency in English, and Pashto and/or Dari.
