Technical Surveyor (Kabul, Afghanistan)

Project Summary

The Asian Development Bank awarded Prime Nimmo Bell (PNB) the contract to prepare the Water Resources Development Sector Project (also known as the Community Driven Irrigation Management project). This project will support the Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan in strengthening water resources management in rural areas of the country with emphasis on community implemented interventions. The project is comprised of three outputs: (i) community based irrigation scheme modernization, (II) climate resilient water management approaches demonstrated, and (iii) livelihood development, market linkages, and nutrition strengthened.

Duty and Responsibilities

Using survey equipment (Total station, GNSS, Leveling machines) perform technical survey of the 18 case studies sites (irrigation schemes, Karizes, flood protection sites, check/small dams, erosion control sites, and solar energy driven pumps at the river banks) in seven provinces of Kabul, Ghazni, Paktika, Farah, Khost, Nangarhar, Kunar
Using Civil 3D, Eagle Point, and Auto Cad, prepare topographical maps from sites survey data.
Find and utilize available topographical data (maps, GIS, Google Earth) to accurately locate command area under each of these sub-projects.
Make preliminary sketch, as well as detail technical surveys for each of the 18 case studies sites.
Calculate and process survey data and prepare stage storage curve for the small dam sites.
Prepare maps and project plans, longitudinal profiles, cross-sections, etc.
Prepare plots in the format required for design engineers to complete design work.
Assist field team and consultants in office when necessary.
Plan works in advance to facilitate timely completion
Collect other essential data for the design engineer such as proposed quarry sites, local material stockpiles, and dump sites.
Perform any other duty assigned by the Deputy Team Leader/ Design Engineer
Perform quality control of data in accordance with approved policies. File and store data in accordance with organizational policies.

Koh-e baba Consultancy Services (KCS), an Afghanistan-based subsidiary of the Prime Group of companies, is a privately-owned firm specialising in the delivery of development projects on behalf of international clients. KCS has core expertise in agribusiness, agricultural extension, apiculture, horticulture, irrigation, livestock husbandry and veterinary support, and technical and vocational education and training.

Qualification:

Bachelor degree in a related field (Geodesy, Civil Engineering)
Must have proficient experience with field survey equipment including total stations, GNSS/GPS, and other survey related equipment.  
Must have proficient experience utilizing survey data to create designs in Eagle Point, AutoCAD-Civil 3D or other required CAD and graphic software.
Minimum of 3 years of work experience in irrigation project surveys and project planning.
Must be a team player and capable of using famers as rodmen in harsh field environment
Documented proficiency in spoken and written English, Pashto, and Dari.

Travel Requirements

Knowledge of and the ability to travel throughout the subproject location areas is vital to accomplishing the duties for the position. Candidates must be able to travel to all proposed subproject areas.
